Now that we have come to the end of the semester, it is time to take the knowledge that you have gained and put it to good use. Your goal for the final is going to be simple: take one of the books or short stories that we have read and give me a 3-4 paragraph analysis of the story, author and purpose.
What exactly is expected?
· In your first paragraph you should give me a short summary of the story and the author. Set the scene and give me some background.
· In your second paragraph you should discuss the author’s purpose. Tell me why you think he/she wrote the story. Was there a hidden meaning? Did they want their voice to be heard or were they trying to speak out against some sort of authority?
· In your third paragraph you should give me your overall analysis of the book. What did you think of the author’s writing style? Was it effective? Did you like the fact that the story was very suspenseful, or did you like the character development? Be specific.
Each paragraph should be at least 6-8 sentences and should use specific details from the book of your choice. Also, remember all the skills that we worked on in the beginning of the semester. (Concrete Details, Show Don't Tell etc) Here is your list of options.
· Tuesdays With Morrie · Persepolis (Think about all the background knowledge you gained while reading this book) · “Harrison Bergeron” · “The Sniper” · “The Most Dangerous Game”
